Members of Parliament want to create a plot that will see them take charge of the sh.6 billion Uwezo fund launched by the president in September. The Uwezo Fund is a youth and women’s fund which has its genesis in the pledge His Excellency the President made to allocate the Kshs. 6 billion that was meant for the presidential run-off to youth and women groups.
Our MPs have however lined up a number of amendments to the draft Public finance management regulation 2013 which are already before parliament. If these amendments are adopted by parliament, MPs will have to take full charge of the fund just as they did with the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
If the amendments sail through, this also means as managers of this fund, the Mps will have the powers to appoint ward representatives to the membership of the Constituency Uwezo Management committee. The Constituency…

For close to 6 days now, armed militia men believed to be from the Pokot community have been holding more that 900 residents and 3 police camps in Turkana country. The Pokot militia are said to have denied police access to Lorogon Village where a number of Turkanas are under siege and said to be suffering.
This came just about two months after MPs from the area protested about rising insecurity in Turkana County terming it as a very big hindrance to the county’s development. They complained that frequent attacks from the nearby Pokot County, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Uganda had devastated the region.

On 15th December 2013, Beyond the Bridge Vision, a non-governmental organization based in Kibera will be holding a free medical camp for the residents.
The camp, which will be held at Kibrah Academy along Karanja road will see Kibera residents get free testing for various diseases including Cervical cancer and HIV AIDS. Various organizations including Philips have come in to support the project and all Kibera residents are invited to the medical camp to get this services free of charge.
